God in the Valley

“Even though I walk through the valley of
the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and
your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4

The valley is where the darkness dwells: sorrow, grief, anger, betrayal, rejection, fear, pain, anxiety, shame, and all other lows that weigh heavy on the heart. But even there God remains steady. There can be no darkness without light and in the valley His light is still present. Throughout every step in the valley, God is our shepherd carrying us with His unfailing love.

Not only is He with us in the valley, but He also lifts us, guides us, and leads us out of the valley. While there are times the darkness of the valley tries to consume us – sometimes moments when it seems to prevail – even then God will be the light to your path.

 And though we believe this truth deep in our heart, at times we may find it difficult to fully trust God while amid the valley.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
learn not on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5

We must learn to lean on God and not our own understanding. The struggle in the valley is real but so is faith – And God meets us in both. During the trial God can see what we cannot. We must trust Him even when the valley feels long and the path is incomplete. Our sight is limited in the valley, but God sees the entire journey beginning to end – including the part we cannot. God’s vision is complete.

Because of this the valley is a place that grows our faith. It challenges what we believe, strengthens our trust, and reminds us of what God has done before. God has been faithful before and He will be faithful again. He meets our weaknesses with hope and transforms our deepest valley into our purest testimonies.

And as we move forward, we learn that the valley is temporary and God not only walks us through it, but He also leads us out of it. When we lean on God instead of our own understanding, we discover that the valley is not permanent. God guides and leads us towards the place He already sees for us. So, as we walk with Him, the valley becomes the soil that grows our faith.

So, there is a concrete truth of our test in the valley - we were never meant to walk by our own strength. We must put our trust in God because when fear, doubt, and darkness grow His presence is constant. His faithfulness is steady and His guidance is sure. God is with us in the valley, and God is the One who leads us out.
